Mar 3:35 For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother. (KJV) If you have trouble with this passage, the equivalent passage in Matthew's Gospel has a walkthrough in the previous section. Here I would like to expound on the nature of blaspheming the Holy Spirit. The core of their blasphemy is found not in mocking Christ, (or blaspheming the person of Jesus himself.) but in rejecting the work of the Holy Spirit as demonic. If after Christ has shown them that a demon casting out another demon does not result in the state of the man improving and making him whole, they yet accuse him of demonic acts, then they are blaspheming the Spirit of truth, the Holy Spirit. Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is just as dangerous when rejecting the Spirit-driven ministrations of another Christian in correcting another's falsity and error - in favour of being wrong! Lies like the infamous "rapture doctrine" are so insidiously and heinously blaspheming the Holy Spirit, because people are so convinced they are right and feel hurt when someone rips away their comfort blanket. Like the scribes in their day, though they are shown the truth, they continue blaspheming. Jesus taught elsewhere that a scribe that is educated in the Kingdom of God is like a householder that brings forth from his treasure things both new and old. Without that education of the kingdom, many of the scribes in this passage seem not to be bringing out much treasure at all. Prior to this passage, Jesus had appointed his twelve apostles and went in to a house. There the crowds pressed in on them so that they could not even have the opportunity to eat a meal. Jesus' friends had tried to bring him away, thinking that "the cheese had fallen off his cracker..." The crowds had come from far away and these friends did not manage to pull Jesus away. The arrival of Jesus' family follows in the passage, and this is the reason why Jesus said his place was among those who hear the word of God from him and do so likewise. The intent of his family was a furtherance of that of his friends. This prophet is without honour in His home town. There is another passage where Jesus is faced with the same measure of external well meant but counter productive restraint. When Peter said to Christ "Far be it from you.." and Jesus replied "Get thee behind me satan!". Whether this passage shows the first or an early occurrence of these blocks in Jesus' path, I'm sure those of you assuming Peter's infallibility would be wise to take heed. (KJV) Jesus teaches that the reason He taught in parables was because all of the teaching is declared within the parables. There is nothing secret or hidden within them that can not or will not be revealed by studying them. Teachings can be misinterpreted, but parables have a way with them that is in their name; they are parallels to the heart of the meaning of the teaching, rather than just the letter. The heart of God that Christ communicates through his parables is not hidden within a stony appearance, or legalistic shalt / shalt nots. The heart of the Father is meant as Jesus said, to be shining forth through his words and not hidden within a covering. We have compared to these of Jesus' disciples, very little knowledge of the face to face relationship with God they had in Christ. We have not seen, and yet have believed and perhaps, coming in from the fields late we have the greater reward. Likewise with the Kingdom of God, the assertion that God is sovereign over every expectation we have of Him in His relationship to us should not be hid. It is the heart of the Gospel and the key to unlocking the meaning of the kingdom of God in the parables; (In that Christ as a perfect example is made sin for us as the truth of the way to eternal life.) Once the kingdom is preached, it is truly sown, there is no reason to hold the kingdom (the axiom L(G)) back since it is not a possession of the believer - truth should be spread openly.
